Houston Chapter helps with Hurricane Relief
Sept. 5, 2017 - As Hurricane Harvey (one of the strongest storms in U.S. history) made its way out of the Houston, Texas, area, Delta Upsilon's Houston Chapter sprung into action. Instead of focusing on their normal beginning of the school year activities, the men have made a commitment to rebuild their community.
For more than a week, classes at the University of Houston were cancelled as students and community members braced for the storm and began to clean up. Much of campus experienced flooding, however the Delta Upsilon house and all of its members remained safe throughout the Hurricane. During this time, the men volunteered a number of times to aid in clean-up and other relief efforts.
The Houston Chapter is not the only chapter to help with the efforts. Many DU chapters, including the Indiana Chapter, hosted fundraisers and canned food drives to help the hurricane survivors. The Indiana Chapter hosted a "flash philanthropy" to collect canned goods. The donation was made in honor of the men's chapter liaison at DU International Headquarters, Dr. Sara Jahansouz Wray, who lives in the Houston area.
