Purpose and history
The DU Educational Foundation provides annual grants for scholarships, initiatives and educational programs that are Building Better Men for a global society.
Mission
The mission of the Delta Upsilon Educational Foundation is to advance the International Fraternity and its members through programs, scholarships and initiatives that build better men. As a separate 501(c)(3) organization, the DUEF is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and recognizing donors who are committed to creating lifelong leaders and global citizens.
With annual support from alumni, undergraduates, parents and friends, the DUEF betters the lives of our members, while also ensuring Delta Upsilon is a leading Fraternity across North America.
HISTORY
Founded in 1949, the original purpose of the Educational Foundation was to provide tuition scholarships to our members. Then, by the mid-1960s, as leadership education at the Fraternity’s annual convention began to take off, the DUEF Board of Trustees realized the Foundation could impact a greater number of brothers if more resources were channeled for leadership training. Throughout the decades that followed, the Foundation provided the International Fraternity with funding for current and new educational programs. These resources have been instrumental in helping our members and chapters be better equipped to bring our Four Founding Principles to life. As a result, Delta Upsilon is an unquestioned leader in the Fraternal when it comes to the number and scope of educational programming offered to our members each year.
FUTURE OF THE FOUNDATION
Today’s modern fraternity serves as a value-added extracurricular activity that prepares men for the future in ways that cannot be found in the typical college experience. Delta Upsilon has developed proven and award-winning educational programs and initiatives that help us build better chapters, better global citizens, better brothers and better men. Right now, the DUEF is only able to partially fund these educational initiatives, and the demand for educational programming increases every year.
We need ongoing financial support from of our brothers and friends to improve our undergraduate-focused initiatives and keep pace with our changing undergraduate membership and our changing world. Our greatest challenges for the future are to (1) increase and sustain donors to the Annual Loyalty Fund, (2) add new endowment funds for educational programming and (3) secure bequests that will ensure our investment in undergraduates is sustained forever.
